Dear Friends and Family,
I wanted to take some time to write to you and give you an update on what God has been doing in my life recently. I joined a new church in October here in Lynchburg, Virginia. It has been absolutely wonderful being a member at West Lynchburg Baptist Church (WLBC). They have welcomed me and made me feel like I have been here forever. It is nice being able to have a church that I feel so comfortable at, and have a place where I truly feel like I fit. This is the place God prepared for me for this chapter in my life and it is wonderful.
God has been blessing me beyond measure through the past year. He has allowed me to be able to improve in my teaching skills as well as my confidence as I teach. It has been a stressful year but a very positive year. I have also been able to gain a better grasp on the things I have been through and I have been able to realize that I have to stop asking myself “What If” instead I have to make sure that I do not allow myself to fall into the patterns I have been surrounded by in the past. I am thankful for the things that I have been around because they have provided me with the opportunities that I have been blessed with as well as the people that I love so dearly.
As many of you know, I have been on 2 missions trips in the past; in 2006 I went to Sao Paulo, Brazil with my church in NJ. And in 2008 I went to Senegal, West Africa with Light Ministries through Liberty University. God has blessed my life through these trips, and he has provided me with an opportunity to go on another mission’s trip this summer. I have been given the opportunity to go to Barakalo, Uganda with Food for the Hungry in mid to late July. We are going to a town that has been attacked by the Lord’s Resistance Army where young men were forced into a life of violence and young girls are forced into a life of sex slavery. Many times these young people are returned to their villages only to be treated as outcasts. This village has been tarnished by the epidemic of aids and so many other illnesses. Food for the Hungry works throughout the year in Baraklo. This is a trip where my work will not only be felt for 2 weeks but throughout the year through child sponsorship and other programs that Food for the Hungry provides.
As I go on this trip, I cannot accomplish anything apart from God. If I do not put Christ first in this endeavor, our team will not be able to do anything good. It is only through God’s work in these people’s lives that we are able to help them and to share with the love of the Lord. Because of this, I ask you for your prayers most of all. I am thankful for any and all prayers that you can provide, not only for me, but for those on my team as well. I pray for your prayers that we all get the support we need, for safety, for those we are ministering to, to have soft hearts so we can reach them for Christ. I am required to raise $3,700 for this trip. This includes all expenses except for our free day activities, our visa when we get to Uganda, and our travel fees to get to the airport we will be flying from.
