My name is Michael Correia -- I joined the Bulldogs Running Club in 2019 and will be running in the 124th Boston Marathon on April 20, 2020 to support the Bulldogs.

I got into running because my drinking was out of control and I needed something that would force me to start taking care of my body and health. So I figured I couldn’t really be hungover if I had to wake up early to run. That seemed to work for a bit but I couldn’t stay sober. I love running but I needed professional help to stop. I went into detox and did an aftercare program and got also got introduced to Alcoholic Anonymous. I quickly realized that this is a disease and the only way for me to stay sober a day at a time is to be with other people who are like me, who understand how I feel and help me with situations in my life so that I didn’t have to turn to drink.

Recovery is real and being around support groups and people who are trying to also stay sober one day at a time is a crucial part in my recovery. I wish I could say I stayed sober my first shot at sobriety, but I didn’t. I put my family and friends through a lot of pain and suffering. I also was dealing with the pain of wanting to stop but not being able to. The struggle was real, but I didn’t give up. I kept trying and failing, but I had hope. Many detox’s and programs later I have managed to put some time together and it feels amazing to be sober. My wife and kids and family are so happy. It’s amazing how life changes when you're sober. It has changed so much for me. Running again is a big part of my recovery and I am so grateful to witness sober people doing amazing things in their lives. The Bulldogs offer so much hope and being around amazing people trying to accomplish positive things in their lives has been awesome.

So I’m asking that you support me and  kindly donate to this amazing organization. The Boston Bulldogs changed what running is for me and for many others. We run for our physical health, for our mental well-being -- believing that anything is possible, for our recovery --  trying to accomplish goals and for our spirit. Please help keep this community and its programs alive by donating what you are able.
