I'm happy to be fundraising for a non-profit near and dear to my heart - the Boston Bulldogs Running Club. The Bulldogs support people in recovery and those affected by addiction by providing a safe space to be active, get support, and support others. I caught wind of the Boston Bulldogs from a few people in meetings, and decided to check it out last spring of 2019.It was a game changer.
Immediately, running transformed from a solitary sport to a social, spiritually enriching, soul-satisfying gathering of friends that I so looked forward to every week. The runs no longer felt like runs. They were filled with conversations of our challenges, accomplishments, addiction, love, and simple every day life musings. Almost like a meeting and a workout in one...but so much more than that. We laugh and we cry and we sweat together.
Last Marathon Monday, I was inspired to finally attempt to qualify for the Boston Marathon -- something that has been in the back of my mind for a long time -- something that felt like a pipe dream. Members of the Bulldogs allowed me to see that it wasn't just a fantasy. They joined me every step of the way in my training, and showed up at my qualifying race in September. They genuinely believed in me, and allowed me to do the same. I'm so happy that I'll be toeing the line with them this April.
The Boston Bulldogs changed what running is for me and for many others. We run for our physical health, for our mental wellbeing, for our recovery, and for our spirit. Please help keep this community alive by donating what you are able.
