Most of you know that I lost the vision in my left eye as a result of a retinal detachment (due to extreme near sightedness) in the Spring of 2016. I was really bummed at the time because it meant that cycling on streets was too dangerous. One of my friends told me about the San Diego Blind Stokers (BSC) and I have been ecstatically cycling on the back of a tandem with a sighted captain for the past 3 years.
Last year, the BSC helped me train for the CFS and RAGBRAI. The RAGBRAI is the Des Moines (Register's Great Bike Ride Across Iowa). That was the greatest bike ride I have ever done to date. It was a bike ride across the entire state of Iowa with 15,000 to 25,000 of my closest friends. There was live music, other entertainment and hearty, Midwestern fare including a myriad of pies - rhubarb, peach, blueberry, custard. What a blast.
Cycling for Sight is the Blind Stokers Club's only fundraiser each year and your tax deductible donation will stay in San Diego, to provide training and counseling to blind and vision-impaired adults in the region. A portion of each dollar will enable more BVI people to enjoy the simple pleasures of riding a bike. You can help build independence in living, and also foster team relationships in sport.

Have fun. Keep the rubber side down & the shiny side up.
