Our organizations are excited to be rebounding from pandemic restrictions. Your tax-deductible donation will provide training and counseling to blind and vision-impaired adults in the region at the San Diego Center for the Blind. A portion of each dollar will enable more BVI people to enjoy the simple pleasures of riding a bike through the Blind Stokers Club. You can help build independence in living, and also foster team relationships in sport.
My name is Jaime, and I am visually impaired. I am a member of the Blind Stokers Club or BSC. I've also received services from the San Diego Center for the Blind, SDCB when I was 18 years old and preparing for college.
The San Diego Center for the Blind helped me gain and improve my mobility and independent living skills. Without the training I received at SDCB, my college and working years would have been much more difficult. The students there come from all walks of life and all ages. Some are young adults that are preparing for a future. Some are older people who have lost their sight through accidents or illnesses. Some, like me, were born with low vision.
Thankfully, the Blind Stokers Club or BSC allows me and others with sight disabilities to ride using a tandem bike and a sighted captain partnership. Before my sight worsened, I enjoyed cycling as a means to get to work and as recreation. A few years ago my sight worsened so I could no longer ride a bicycle safely on my own. Without BSC I could not continue to enjoy cycling or the camaraderie of fellow cyclists.
Both organizations, the BSC and SDCB, promote the health, wellbeing, and independence of people with vision disabilities. Your donations will ensure that these organizations continue to be available to the blind and visually impaired community.
Thank you for any donations. They are much appreciated.
