The San Diego Center for the Blind provides a wide range of services for people with vision loss-from support groups and individual counseling to instruction in independent living skills, safe travel skills, Braille instruction, computer classes, cooking safety, home safety and lighting assessments, low vision examinations, instruction in the use of simple to complex low vision devices, plus a store full of the latest daily living aids, magnifiers and electronic devices. Whew!
I’ve been the low vision optometrist at SDCB since September of 2018 and am always impressed by the team and its commitment to helping our neighbors maintain their safety, independence and quality of life.  The San Diego Center for the Blind is always there for the community. Even while we cannot see clients in person, our staff continues to reach out and teach and provide support to our visually impaired and blind clients, whether it’s a telephone call to check in on an isolated senior, a Braille lesson, or a Zoom meeting to teach orientation and mobility skills.

The COVID-19 pandemic is challenging the ability for non-profits like SDCB and clubs like BSC to navigate on behalf of constituents. Your tax deductible donation will provide training and counseling to blind and vision-impaired adults in the region. A portion of each dollar will enable more BVI people to enjoy the simple pleasures of riding a bike. You can help build independence in living, and also foster team relationships in sport.
