“Missions is not the ultimate goal of the church. Worship is. Missions exists because worship doesn’t.” - John Piper, Let the Nations Be Glad.
The first time I read these words in Piper’s book, I was gripped by the simplicity and the gravity of that message. Missions and mission trips are not an end in themselves, not something we do to simply round our spiritual skill set. Missions is a means to achieve God’s ultimate goal that all nations would have a chance to hear about Who Jesus is and to worship Him as Lord!
This is my heartbeat – to give my life to worship multiplication! I want to worship the Lord as much as possible and help as many people as I can to become the true worshipers God created them to be. To that end, I am excited to write this letter and tell you about the opportunity that God has given me this summer!
From June 6-12th, a team of approximately 15 high school students and leaders from Cypress Bible Church will be seeking to expand the worship of Jesus by traveling to minister in New York City. This mission trip will challenge our team members to engage in Gospel conversations on park benches, subways and the streets of the Big Apple. The goal is to become comfortable with engaging strangers in significant spiritual conversations, not for just a week, but in preparation for a life-time of faithful ministry. Additionally, I will be responsible to mentor, challenge, encourage, and support a group of students during the week and assist with some leadership and devotional aspects of the trip.
I had the privilege of participating in this trip with a group of students and leaders back in 2012, and it was a faith-shaping experience for me! I have always struggled with finding the right way to engage people in spiritual conversations and with seizing the opportunity to share my story with others when God opens a door. This trip stretched me in ways that I needed to be stretched, increased my dependence on God, and helped me conquer these fears. I know that the Lord will continue to teach me new things as I again get out of my comfort zone. As an added bonus, I get to serve this year alongside my 15-year-old daughter, Ally! What a blessing to have a front row seat to watch God work in and through Ally for His glory!
The thing that makes the New York trip such an amazing cross-cultural experience is that the nations have gathered there! You would have to travel thousands of miles on a plane to reach the number of nations you will interact with during a week in New York. When I was there in 2012, I spoke to people from Iraq, Turkey, Spain, England, Argentina, France, and Tunisia, and many other countries. The city is a melting pot of nations that we can impact without even leaving our borders! There are over 800 languages spoken in the city, and over 36% of its population is foreign-born. It also has the largest Jewish population in the world outside of Israel. What a great opportunity to reach people from places we might never get to go!
The purpose of this letter to inform and invite you to participate in God’s work through me and the rest of the team. To make this trip possible, I will need to raise $1300.00 in support to cover the travel costs and ministry expenses. You can donate now and by hitting “Give Now” on the upper right. You can give with any major credit card and it only takes 30 seconds. I appreciate it so very much. In addition to the financial support, I would like to secure a team of at least 20 prayer supporters who will commit to praying for me daily from June 6-12. Prayer is the work behind God’s work, so even if you cannot support me financially, I would really appreciate your committed prayers for our team. Thank you so much for considering this Great Commission opportunity – I look forward to hearing from you!
All For Jesus,
