Dear Friends and Family,

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter and become involved with my latest adventure.

A lot has happened since my last trip to Eastern Congo… I have seen the Lord do so many amazing things in my life and in the lives of my partners and friends in Congo. While not everything has been easy, there is so much to celebrate and be thankful for.

This August I have the opportunity to return to be with my friends and family in Congo. I will be leading a team of eight on a Faith Adventure to Goma in the eastern part of the country. This region has been a center of war and unrest for decades. Over the two weeks we will work with pastors Camille and Esther Ntoto and their organization, UJN “Un Jour Nouveau” (also known as Africa New Day). I strongly believe in their mission of a peaceful and prosperous Congo where every Congolese is part of the solution.

Our team will be using their talents and experience in business, trauma therapy, education, and self-defense. Each of us will be serving in a variety of ways but here are some of the main areas we will focus while there:

Women: Congo was deemed the worst place in the world to be a woman. We are not ok with that and neither are the Congolese people. We will be helping with a one day BRAVE conference with speakers and workshops to equip and encourage middle school and high school aged girls that they have a future and hope that is bright with possibilities. We want to journey with them to fight for their freedom and their future.

Education: The UJN school which focuses on quality education and leadership is now the second rated school in the province. It is Congolese lead and students are learning at a young age that they can be leaders and can make an impact in not only their communities but their country as well. Members of our team are professional educators and they will be doing trainings with the teaching staff as well as assisting with summer school programs.

Business & Leadership: I am excited to get to return to the Leadership Academy and work with inspiring men and women who are leading in their families, businesses and communities. We will also be working with a team of entrepreneurs to review possible local business opportunities to get closer to the goal of sustainability.

Most importantly, as part of the Global Church, we will be forming long-term relationships, sharing our stories, and learning from the Congolese people’s abundant and inspiring capacity for faith and worship in the midst of difficult circumstances. Experiencing the bold faith of the Congolese will also empower me to better encourage and serve friends, family and those in need here in my own community.

Your support is vital for this trip and there are two ways you can join me in this adventure. First, I ask that you please pray for our team and for the work with which we have been entrusted with. Pray for our protection, safety and health; pray for our families at home. Leaving my wife and two young children for two weeks will be challenging but I know your prayers will strengthen us as a family.

Second, you can help by supporting me financially as we are each responsible to raise $4000 to fund our airfare, transportation, lodging and food. The humbling, and to be honest scary, experience of needing to raise funds gives me the opportunity to invite friends, family and those who cannot go to become active participants and partners on this mission. Raising funds paints a beautiful picture of being dependent on God to provide while also keeping me accountable to my supporters to carry out the work laid before me. Although having to raise funds for myself is way out of my comfort zone I feel better knowing your support is an investment into sustainable long-term change.

Where your money goes, your heart follows. Therefore, your financial contribution -- no matter the size -- shows not only your support of me, but more importantly, your support of Congo and a belief that light can overcome darkness.

Financial contributions, which are tax deductible, can be made online at https://www.grouprev.com/congosummerfaithadventure2018-griffithmcdaniel

Or to contribute by check, please make it out to Mariners Church and write ‘Congo2018-Griffith McDaniel’ in the memo line. You can mail it to 5001 Newport Coast Drive, Irvine CA 92603. I will not see the amounts given, only the names of my supporters.

Thank you in advance for your prayers and support! I look forward to sharing testimonies of the story of hope that is being written in Congo.
