Congo Summer Faith Adventure 2018 - Heidi Huntley

Dear Friend,

Many of you know that last summer I went on a faith adventure trip to the Democratic Republic of Congo. It was one of the best experi-ences of my life! This photograph is from the first day we arrived in Goma. We had crossed the border from Rwanda just two hours earlier. We went to a displaced persons camp to invite them to a worship service and to distribute food. This camp was meant to be a temporary home to people who had left their villages seeking refuge from rebel warfare. Some of the families we met had been living in these tents for 8 years.

I have been blessed to get to know Camille and Esther Ntoto, founders of Africa New Day, who have been doing ministry in Goma for 14 years. Last summer I witnessed how far reaching the impact of their work has been. They are raising up leaders who are working to change the country. As I met many of their staff members and individuals involved in their programs, I was stunned by their hope, their trust in God and their resiliency. God spoke to me in powerful ways, reminding me of how much He loves me, His desire for me to work with children in the classroom, and inviting me to live more freely out of who He has created me to be.

In August I will be returning to Goma. This year I have been asked to co-lead the team. I am excited to be guiding others to such a far away place knowing that God is going to speak to them and use them in ways beyond their wildest expectations. Our trip is from Au-gust 1-13. In our time there we will be working with the staff at the primary school, providing basic health assessments and helping to put on an event to empower teen girls to use their voice and know their identity as daughters of God.

• Camille, Esther, Africa New Day, Un Jour Nouveau Primary School and the work God is doing through them and all the lives they are impacting
• The team I will be traveling with, our safety, our health, and our openness to allow God to be working through us and in us
• What God wants to reveal to me and teach me in this journey
