The Friendship Paddle
On September 15th over 150 paddlers will start at sunrise in Forney's Cove on Santa Cruz Island and paddle the Santa Barbara Channel and land on the beach in front of the Santa Barbara Yacht Club in support of Mike Kelley and his family.
I was lucky enough to be a part of the paddle last year and saw how inspiring and supportive our community is. The Friendship Paddle began 16 years ago in support of Doug McFadden who had an inoperable brain tumor. His friends wanted to raise funds for Doug and his young family but also to show the support he needed to fight his disease, and this is how the Friendship Paddle was born. This year we are paddling for a good friend of mine, Mike Kelley. Mike was born and raised in Santa Barbara. His wife Pat is a very close friend OF mine and he has two amazing children, Blake and Reese.
I fought my own battle with cancer 2 years ago and I know how important your friends and community are. Cancer sucks and nobody should have to fight this terrible disease alone. Please consider donating to this amazing organization where 100% of the proceeds go to beneficiary.
We organize open ocean paddle events to provide emotional and financial support to Santa Barbara County residents fighting life-threatening illnesses. The Friendship Paddle is 5013c non-profit and 100% of the donations will be going to the honoree.
