Lamprey River Source To Sea Youth Program

Help us inspire & train a new generation of river stewards Learn More

Overview

This summer Rivers For Change will paddle the Lamprey River from Source To Sea, a 67-mile journey down a historic Wild & Scenic River in New Hampshire. Our team will run the river to the sea in May and will then return in July with Student Ambassadors from multiple school districts throughout the watershed to travel the river, study it along its course and showcase the beauty, history, and diversity the Lamprey River holds.  Along the way, we’ll engage locals, visit classrooms, host river cleanups, paddle with community members and help connect more people to this valuable resource.

Students

Student Ambassadors are the backbone of our Source To Sea School and this project. In July we’re hosting a dozen Students between the ages of 11-13 on the water for five days of paddlesport and river education. In the program, they’ll become proficient paddling kayaks, canoes, and standup paddleboards learning proper technique, safety, and leadership.

They will have the unique opportunity to learn all about rivers as we paddle and explore the Lamprey River.  The Student Ambassadors who complete this program will become knowledgeable about river dynamics, wildlife, flora & fauna, aquatic life, human impact, history and much more while having fun outdoors. During the week we’ll hear from guest instructors from partnering organizations to learn even more about the Lamprey River. We know that if kids are connected to rivers early, they’ll spend their lifetimes loving rivers and doing their best to protect them.

Partners

We're fortunate to have three important local partners on this program.  The Lamprey River Advisory Committee helps communities protect and enjoy the Lamprey River through resource protection, research and outreach.  The Lamprey River Watershed Association promotes the restoration, conservation, wise development and use of the natural resources of the Lamprey River Watershed.  Seven Rivers Paddling is the leader in paddlesports training & adventure in the Lamprey River area and specializes in youth development.
